HOW TO PREPARE FOR ORLANDO ORAL SURGERY

  1. Your first appointment is a consultation with Dr. Maali.  Be sure to bring your list of current medications and all your questions concerning your upcoming procedure. Dr. Maali fully involves his patients in their oral health care and wants them informed on the whys and hows of oral surgery.
  2. Bring x-rays or other images. If you have been referred to Dr. Maali by another dentist or primary care physician, bring your x-rays or other important records with you or have them transferred to Dr. Maali’s office team.
  3. Discuss anesthesia options. Many laser surgeries require only simple pain shots or nothing at all. More complex dental treatments may need sedation options such as Nitrous Oxide Gas or oral tranquilizers.  Ask Dr. Maali what medication is right for you. Inform him if you are a smoker.
  4. Stop medications such as blood thinners and herbal supplements before surgery. Ask Dr. Maali when you should stop, and also if you need to fast before your surgery. Many individuals have nothing to eat or drink on the day of their procedure. Also, if you are diabetic, inform your primary care physician and Dr. Maali. They may have special instructions for you.
  5. Arrange for a friend or loved one to drive you home from your procedure and to help you with follow-up care as needed. Depending on the surgery, some patients take pain meds and/or antibiotics. Also, a soft diet and gentler hygiene practices for a few days provide comfort and speed healing.

Dr. Maali takes special care of his surgery patients, ensuring their comfort and being available for phone calls or follow-up care as necessary.
