George Washington is, perhaps, the most famous denture wearer. Throughout his life, he had several pairs of false teeth, and despite rumors that they were crafted from wood, these dentures were actually made of an assortment of metals, human teeth, and animal teeth. Lucky for our Orlando patients, choosing the right denture type, fit, and material is a little simpler than selecting between hippopotamus and monkey teeth. Today, the most important question patients answer before making a denture decision is: traditional or implant-supported? At Sand Lake Family Dental, we offer both types of Dentures, and we are dedicated to helping patients make the choice that fits their personal needs, budget, and lifestyle.

REMOVABLE DENTURES IN ORLANDO

Removable dentures are a tested method of tooth replacement for edentulous (without teeth) patients. Composed of replacement teeth set into a gum-colored base, removable dentures rely on natural suction between the gums and dentures to remain in place. Some patients prefer to add a small amount of dental adhesive to keep teeth in position. With regular care at home and twice-a-year visits to our office, dentures last for decades. Additionally, a high-quality removable denture can be readjusted as necessary to ensure the most comfortable, confident fit.

THE DENTAL IMPLANTS PROCESS

Dental implants are titanium posts placed below the jawline to replace root structure. After several months of healing and waiting for the new, supportive alveolar bone to fuse to the post, patients return to our practice to have a denture permanently attached to the posts. We may also attach the denture using clasps so the patient can remove their denture at home. For those patients who already wear a removable denture, we may even be able to adjust your existing prosthetic to attach to implant posts.

BENEFITS OF IMPLANT RETAINED DENTURES

  • Retain natural bone and gum tissue due to stimulation from the prosthetic root structure
  • Avoid wrinkles and facial sagging that occur over time due to the lack of support from lost bone and gum tissue
  • Restores 70% more chewing ability compared with traditional dentures
  • No worries about smiling, laughing, speaking, or eating in public since dentures remain firmly in position
  • Look and feel more like natural teeth for comfortable results
  • Long-lasting results may stay with patients for the rest of their life with minimal if any adjustment
